Opportunities for Students
Green Impact is all about participation, so if you are a student looking to take part in some great volunteering, get stuck in to delivering a programme that makes real impacts on and off campus, or just want to know more about making you stand out from the crowd when you graduate, we can offer a range of exciting opportunities.
Find out more from your students’ union or institution, or take a look below at the things you may want to take part in.
Green Impact Auditors
Every year, NUS recruits and trains over 750 students to take part in a day of workshops and practical sessions. We need to make sure that our staff teams across our universities and colleges have completed all of the Green Impact criteria they think they have, and offer support and advice to those who haven’t. It is a great opportunity to gain practical skills and experience through training approved by IEMA and leading your own audits of professional departments in your own institution.
“The training has given me a practical experience of auditing while educating me on environmentally friendly actions that I can take and encourage others to take” (Westminster University)
“An inspiring and challenging experience which will now ensure my favourite colour is GREEN! :-)” (University of Bath)
Green Impact Project Assistants
Green Impact project assistants get experience in project managing sustainability behaviour change across an entire academic year.
You will receive training from NUS and Change Agents UK on sustainability issues and solutions, project and team management skills and the communication techniques that make people excited to take part in Green Impact. Over the year, you will support teams across your institution make even greater impacts and may well be responsible for pushing them to achieve even higher awards in the end of year Green Impact awards ceremony.
Getting your own department to sign up or helping a team struggling to get to grips with the actions ion their workbooks, either way your skills will be valued and developed to make you really stand out from the crowd.
“If you have a FRIENDLY approach, BELIEVE in change and want to be part of it you will achieve good results. And take step further, and not what is just required of you!” (Green Impact project assistant)
“The scheme as a whole is a great idea, as allows GIPA to stand out from the crowd and be part of something important, as well as it builds on interpersonal skills” (Green Impact project assistant)
Research
We are constantly trying to improve our knowledge on what makes our participants create positive environmental changes, and students can be integral in helping us achieve this. If you have a dissertation to write or are looking to do some research, get in touch with us to see if we can point you in the right direction and potentially help you be part of researching our national programmes.
